A Note About Soup Is Stock: A Recipe for Fellowship
When I first created Soup Is Stock, I wanted to explore a simple question: What truly nourishes us?
As a curious educator, land steward, and community organizer, I have spent almost a half decade thinking about the relationships between food, land, memory, and community. I have learned recently that a meal can bring people together, that the land teaches us patience and responsibility, and that the stories we carry often reveal what matters most to us.
But nourishment is not only physical. In John 6:35, Jesus declares, “I am the bread of life.” His words invite us to consider a kind of nourishment that cannot be found in our kitchens or gardens alone. This devotional is an invitation to explore that spiritual nourishment through the Word of God.
Throughout these pages, we will reflect on our relationship with the land, examine what Scripture teaches about faith and fellowship, and consider how the Gospel calls us to love and serve one another.
We will also make soup. Not because soup itself holds the answers, but because preparing and sharing a meal gives us an opportunity to practice gratitude, hospitality, patience, and care.
Each chapter includes Scripture, reflection, questions, prayer, and an invitation to put faith into practice. You can complete this devotional independently or invite others to journey alongside you.
My hope is that the time you spend reading, reflecting, cooking, and gathering will encourage you to seek God more intentionally, recognize His provision, and grow in fellowship with others.
May we come to the table ready to receive the Word, share what God has entrusted to us, and serve one another in love.
Growing in faith together,
D’Real Graham
